Hi all, Kaohsiung Taiwan.

Just finished a nice action on a very dodgy reefer ship Gp have been after for years, this things been pirating fish out of the closed fishing zones in the pacific for years and re supplying/re fuelling the illegal fishing fleets, it's been arrested numerous times around the world for many offences including human rights violations (paid 2 crew members 300 dollars for 2 years work)...

anyway last night we projected various images onto her hull, mainly for the benefit of the local media /TV and to get interested up. It's very difficult here to do a direct hard action, the Taiwan office being very new and the Taiwanese being so polite it's difficult to get legal sign off to do anything hard so we thought a soft approach was called for.
That worked great and we got lots of media coverage and interest but chiefly got the Taiwanese fishing assoc to virtually admit on camera the vessel was illegal and has been for years.

The action was so successful with the Taiwan office (it was their first ever action) we got sign off to continue with a direct action the next morning before the ship left for a 2yr plunder of the pacific at nine am. This action was much more interesting as involved putting a climber on the anchor chain to detain the ship, this was easily accomplished by my boat and we then awaited reaction from the vessels owner to answer the charges.

This was slow in happening but official and police presence gradually increased over 3 hours till we had the owner going ballistic on the quayside with us presenting legal and official proof that everything he was saying was bullshit and our 2 boats were surrounded by 6 police boats and about 30 police. Being the first time GP Taiwan had done anything the police very unsure about how to handle things but to cut a long story short (we were briefed to make things easy for them) they eventually moved in in force and removed the climber and the small attending boat we had but then stupidly started being aggressive with me, the media boat.

now common sense tells me that in front of local news crews you don't do anything stupid in a peaceful action, especially when it ending but they went abit crazy and 5 of the boats started herding me away...

well you got to get the good footage of the climber being arrested so just kept dodging round them and closing in to the arresting boat to the extent they rammed me twice and missed a few other times, got the local news crews who were all in my boat very excited and made the police look very bad...was funny though a few times, during one of our evasive manoeuvres two of the police boats rammed each other, very loud splintering fibreglass sounds, another broke down and on a third, one of cops triggered his self inflating life jacket, looked liked he had enough.

Anyway all ended well except our climber is still in jail but we expect their release at latest tomorrow, and an extra bonus we got was Vanuatu being the ships flag state deregistering her after hearing about this (don't know how that happened) so now she's a completely illegal pirate with little chance of ever being registered again anywhere so her future looks short.
